SCHAEFER FOR CONGRESS NEVADA CD4

Mike's early Nevada case created "confidential status" for every Clark County voter's home address on public records, so we could vote without exposing our personal home to commercial or criminal interests. His California Supreme Court case established the 'right to write-in' whenever the printed ballot-names were an adequate choice. Judges and constitutional scholars applaud his talent. He has served as a Moot Court judge for UNLV and USD law schools. His case saved a Metro Policeman's job upon the officer's election to Las Vegas City Council, and another case made possible the first Korean's election to Los Angeles City Council. He's an election hobbyist. He's been in Pahrump, Tonopah and Pahrump courts on many cases related to his family rentals business in Tonopah.

Platform for Progress:

#1: What differentiates Mike from his four opponents is his support of Yucca Mountain, America's nuclear waste storage site. Nevada's acceptance of this is a patriotic duty to assist America's military and private needs, and bring home THOUSANDS OF JOBS to Nevada and $1,000 'dividend' from the Nevada Permanent Fund, disbursing contributions from private utilities and the federal government, to give every Nevadan, felons excepted, their piece-of-the-pie, just as Alaska sent each of its residents, felons excepted, $2,072 last year. [A baby born in Nevada in 2017 would expect at age 18 to receive $18,000 on turning 18, plus accrued interest, to help with education and adulthood in any manner he or she desires. Before the checks are issued, Mike must get to Congress, offer appropriate legislation, get co-sponsors of every Congressmember who has a Nimby(*) attitude, get bill passed. Casinos eying where the $1000 annual check might end-up are expected to support this special "Dividend" for each of us and America's utilities will be behind us. Mike expects your first $1000 dividend by 2018.] Decades ago Mike represented the nuclear power plant advocates at Diablo Canyon, near San Luis Obispo, seeking to prevent state government interference in getting approvals; the plant come into being and has served the public since 1985, is now California's only nuclear reactor and is operated by Pacific Gas & Electric. In 1960 as Men's President at UC Berkeley, Mike got to know the Chancellor over several luncheons, Glenn T. Seaborg, a worldclass scientist who was named by President Kennedy as Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Mike Schaefer has been comfortable with clean atomic energy since its inception and is convinced Yucca Mountain exposes us almost no readiation, at the lowest and harmless level of any of the many countries who have dealt with nuclear storage for decades. And offers us thousands of local jobs and $1,000 in your bank every year it is there, and the estimate is 10,000 years.

In many countries, including Finland, Sweden, and US, nuclear waste has been securely disposed of in hear-surface repositories so as to cause no harm or risk in the long term, as a matter of 'routine'. The US Navy and other federal spent fuel is currently shipped to and stored in New Mexico. This is nothing new! Nuclear energy has distinct environmental advantages over fossil fuels. As well as containing and managing all its wastes, nuclear power stations do not cause any pollution; fuel for nuclear power is virtually unlimited. Well-proven technology means we can extract about 60 times as much energy from the Earth's crust as we do today. All cleaning products in our kitchens are toxic if we absorb them, products we spread onto crops are toxic as well;

Since 1971, we have made over 20,000 safe shipments of highly radioactive used fuel and over 50,000 tons of high-level wastes with no property damages or personal injury, no breach of condtainment and very low radiation dose to personnel. Repositories are designed to assure that harmful radiation could not reach the surface even with severe earthquakes or the passage of time. (see Radioactive Wastes, Myths & Realities, 2012 update). The Nuclear Regulatory Commission met with 1400 participants in a serious of meetings, receiving about 33,000 pieces of correspondence from the public and recorded over 1600 pages of transcripts for further review.

The other candidates are surrogates for Senator Harry Reid, who has expressed the decades-old prevailing opposition to nuclear storage. Yucca Mountain is the most studied real estate in the world, and studies prove that the radiation 'exposure' to Nevadans is substantially less than any of us incur on a visit to the Dentist with a tooth X-Ray. Mike Schaefer applauds our senior senator's achievements for America and Nevada but suggests that technology has caught up with the Yucca Mountain issue and it is time for each of us to 'cash in', as has Alaska, on what we have to offer the nation, and to enjoy a new era of full employment with a national project that will be bigger than Boulder/Hoover Dam was in the 1930s.

Mike Schaefer, like his opponents, is for Motherhood and Apple Pie, but he offers something you can bite-into, thousands of Nevada jobs and billions in 'dividends' paid to each of us forever, so

#2: A Second Issue is federal disposal of its over-80% ownership of Nevada. There will be periodic public auctions, the lands will be put on the tax-rolls of our 17 counties, private development will occur, there will be no more armed-rebellion-standoffs, and every part of Nevada will enjoy new prosperity and economic success. The feds refuse to actively and appropriately manage our lands; that will end when America's business talent takes over. Present federal law limits Nevada's economic development and opportunity.

#3: As for immigration, we must focus on merit rather than family status. No more immediate welfare for parents of a U.S.- born child of undocumented immigrants; but that child will have a path to citizenship if he/she achieves goals and is not identified with the criminal justice system. The sins of the parents are not visited upon the children; we will evaluate every US resident on what is accomplished and has a dream been earned. Undocumented residents have served ably in our military, and earned citizenship. Academic, employment and investment achievements have earned our support too. The undocumeneted aliens in our prisons will be sent 'home', one-way transportation. We are not policemen or jailers to-the-world. Our focus must be on legal immigration, not lawbreakers. If new arrivals, from Mexico or anywhere, have a criminal history back-home, they will flunk the admissions test and be returned diplomatically to their home and family.
